Programs

Our founding scientists at the Ottawa Health Research Institute (OHRI) have made seminal discoveries into the biological processes by which the body's innate stem cells can be utilized to treat disease. We then target these stem cell pathways to stimulate regeneration in selected organs damaged by disease, thus restoring function. To-date, Verio's programs include the discovery of therapeutic candidates that we have shown in laboratory and animal model testing to be capable of:
regenerating cardio-myocytes to treat severe cardiac dysfunction following heart attacks;
stimulating the production of new insulin producing cells to treat diabetes;
promoting the growth of new skeletal muscle fibers to treat diseases such as sarcopenia;
reducing damage caused by muscular dystrophy.

Presenter Bio

Frank Gleeson has been the founding VC for a dozen biomedical start-ups, an operating executive with a global multinational and a founding biotechnology CEO. He has completed over $300m in financing and partnering transactions. Frank is Chair of the Board of the Stem Cell Network of Canada and in 2003 was recognized as a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum.
