Company Profile

Theratechnologies (TSX: TH) is a Canadian biopharmaceutical company that discovers and develops innovative therapeutic products, with an emphasis on peptides, for commercialization. The Company targets unmet medical needs in financially attractive specialty markets where it can retain all or part of the commercial rights to its products. Its most advanced compound, tesamorelin, is an analogue of the human growth hormone releasing factor. In 2009, Theratechnologies submitted a New Drug Application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, seeking approval of tesamorelin for the treatment of excess abdominal fat in HIV-infected patients with lipodystrophy. The Companys growth strategy is centered on the commercialization of tesamorelin in the United States and in other markets for HIV-associated lipodystrophy, as well as the development of clinical programs for tesamorelin in other medical conditions.

Company Strategy

Our product portfolio contains therapeutic products at various stages of development aimed at answering unmet medical needs in commercially attractive markets. Our strategy is now focused on the development of our lead-product, tesamorelin, in the United States and in other potential lipodystrophy markets.

Intellectual Property

The Company's patent portfolio is comprised of several patent families, each covering a product or a technology. There are six families which cover therapeutic peptides under development. Presently, the Company holds one family of patents which protect the tesamorelin peptide and a series of tesamorelin analogues, two families which are aimed at protecting therapeutic indications of tesamorelin, and one family which covers a new formulation thereof. In addition, there are two families which are aimed at protecting peptides in the area of acute kidney injury.

Programs

Phase 3 clinical studies evaluating our lead-product, tesamorelin, for the treatment of excess abdominal fat in HIV-infected patients with lipodystrophy have now been completed. In order to obtain market approval for the treatment of this important aspect of HIV-associated lipodystrophy, a New Drug Application was filed with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on May 29, 2009.

Moreover, two independent exploratory studies sponsored by the National Institutes of Health in the United States are evaluating the potential of tesamorelin for the treatment of growth hormone deficiency associated with abdominal obesity as well as for the treatment of pre-Alzheimer syndrome.

In October 2008, Theratechnologies concluded a collaboration and licensing agreement with EMD Serono, Inc., for the commercialization of tesamorelin in the United States for the treatment of excess abdominal fat in HIV-infected patients with lipodystrophy. As per this agreement, EMD Serono has an option to participate in the development and commercialization of tesamorelin in other potential indications.

In earlier stages of development, we are also working on other therapeutic compounds, the most advanced of which is in preclinical development and targets acute kidney injury.
