Radient Technologies Inc. specializes in the extraction, isolation and purification of high value compounds from natural sources. We offer in-house manufacturing services and licensing services for the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, cosmetic/fragrance, food and fine ingredient industries based on our Microwave Assisted Processing (MAPTM) extraction technology. The company was founded in 2001, is headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta and has R&D and manufacturing facilities in 2 locations in Ontario. It is also building a larger manufacturing plant in Edmonton, scheduled for completion in late 2010.

Radient's technology (the "Radient Solution") is centered around a vastly superior means of carrying out solvent extraction of natural products. Conventional solvent extraction relies on passive diffusion of the target molecule into the solvent, whereas Radient's proprietary MAPTM utilizes microwaves to set up a pressure-driven 'active' diffusion, thus significantly improving product yields and purity, while reducing costs, cycle time, energy consumption, and environmental discharges. Radient also has a superior purification technique in that it provides greater selectivity, yield, and purity, can reduce extraction times and solvent volumes and can often be used for previously non-purifiable compounds or difficult source materials. MAPTM technology also allows for greater solvent selectability, cost reduction strategies, and permits unique formulations.

Radient offers three phases of service. The first phase involves proof-of-concept, a demonstration that MAPTM technology will work for the targeted compound. The second phase involves a scale-up and optimization of the purification process. In the third phase, the needs of the client will be assessed and either a toll processing with a future licensing will be entered into or there will be a direct step to a licensed service.

Intellectual Property

The twelve patents for the Microwave Assisted Processing technology are held by Environment Canada and are licensed to Radient. Radient's strategy is to extend the life of these patents by patenting specific processes that employ this IP..

Presenter Bio

Dr. David Cox was appointed President & CEO of Radient Technologies Inc. on Sept 8th, 2009. Prior to joining Radient, Dr. Cox was the CEO of TEC Edmonton for several years. He is an experienced leader in the public and private sectors with direct involvement in biotechnology organizations and has extensive C-Level executive experience in medium-sized pharmaceutical companies as well as small biotech companies, and has substantial experience with capital markets in Canada and the United States. Prior to assuming his position as CEO of TEC Edmonton in 2006, Dr. Cox had spent 12 years as a biotech/pharmaceutical CEO, firstly for Apotex Fermentation Inc in Winnipeg (1994-1997), then SYNSORB Biotech Inc (a TSX and Nasdaq listed company based in Calgary, 1997 2002), privately-held KS Avicenna Inc. of Edmonton (2002-2004) and finally Quest PharmaTech Inc, an Edmonton-based company which is publicly traded on the TSX(V) Exchange (2005-2006). Dr. Cox is currently a Director of Exciton Technologies Inc. as well as Radient.
