ProScan Rx Pharma Inc. (Montreal) is an early-stage biotechnology company employing novel targeted technology to improve the clinical management of cancer patients. The company has developed a highly specific monoclonal antibody against the Prostate Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA), a validated and recognized prostate carcinoma marker. The antibody has dual potential clinical applications in prostate cancer for therapy and in vivo diagnostic. It has successfully completed in vivo proof-of-principle in animal model for i) sensitive in vivo detection and localization of cancer foci by whole body imaging, using a radioisotope conjugate and, ii) efficient growth suppression of grafted human prostate cancer cells. ProScan is seeking financing or partnership to pursue the development of the compounds into the clinic.
Company Strategy
The companys forthcoming focus is to humanize the current murine antibody to allow for safely administering multiple doses in humans. The companys goal will be to bring up to clinical phase II the broad usage of its antibody, incorporating both diagnosis and treatment.
In parallel, the companys strategy is to i) increase the value of its anti-PSMA antibody discoveries in view of the apparent expression of the PSMA marker in most solid cancer neovasculature and potential key implications in tissue remodelling, ii) form partnerships or out license antibodies for exploring alternative therapeutic strategies such as immunotoxin, iii) develop new antibodies or small molecule derivatives for other unmet clinical needs.
Intellectual Property
ProScan has protected a number of diverse but specific molecules and clinical applications related to diagnosis and therapy of prostate cancer. New applications will be filed as data is generated or discoveries are made.

ProScan is a privately funded company. It had benefit from financial assistance of the NRC - IRAP early on.

Presenter Bio
Serge Moffett holds a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from the Université de Montréal, and he was further trained at the Washington University School of Medicine as a Postdoctoral Fellow. He started his career at Theratechnologies Inc. as a Scientist in the therapeutic peptides unit. He has managed ProScans scientific discoveries and operations since the inception of the company in 2002.
