Presenter Bio

Jan-Eric Ahlfors has served as the CEO of Biotech companies in the U.S., Europe, and Canada. He has pioneered a novel approach to Regenerative Medicine and his view is that the best methods of regeneration are those that mimic regenerative processes observed in nature. At age 25, while finishing his Ph.D., he founded his first Biotech company which quickly grew to become the posterchild of the regenerative medicine industry in New England. He has appeared in numerous newspaper and magazine articles both nationally and internationally, has served as a leading spokesperson for stem cells and regenerative medicine in Massachusetts and elsewhere, wrote an original version of the Massachusetts stem cell bill that came into law, is one of the youngest individuals ever to receive an O-1 ("Extraordinary Ability") status from the U.S. government, and was awarded the State of Massachusetts 2004 "Businessman of the Year" title award from the National Republican Congressional Committee. He has degrees in biotechnology, physics, biomedical engineering, and an MBA in the Management of Technology from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and holds a record on the greatest number of classes ever taken in the University's 145-year history. He received his laboratory research training at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and Harvard consortium under Drs. Vacanti.
