- This Conference began in May 1997 as scientific symposium of the Canadian Medical Discoveries Fund and presenters were CMDF portfolio companies.
- In May 1999, the conference was expanded to include other industry participants and sponsorship grew to 5 companies.
- In March 2000, BioFinance.Canada incorporated as Federal non-profit corporation.
- Its Board included Drs. Calvin Stiller and Martin Godbout who expanded the scope of the conference and sought sponsorship of major financial institutions and service organizations that invest heavily in the life sciences and biotechnology.
- It held the Connections Conference in 2000 which had 10 sponsors, 50 presenting companies and 250 attendees.
- BioFinance 2001 increased its sponsorship to 22 organizations and 4 biotech associations and 100 presenting companies and 450 attendees.
- BioFinance has grown steadily each year, increasing its sponsorship to 28 organizations with presentations of over 100 life science companies and 750 attendees.
