Company Profile
Helix BioPharma Corporation is developing innovative medicines mainly in the areas of cancer prevention and treatment.
Helix is focused on the development of two product candidates based on the company's two platform technologies, Biphasix and DOS47.
The Company's most advanced initiative, employing Helix's topical drug delivery system called Biphasix, is Topical Interferon Alpha-2b. It is in clinical development as a preventative therapeutic against cervical cancer as well as a treatment for ano-genital warts, both of which are conditions caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infections.
Helixs second initiative is L-DOS47 for the treatment of the most common form of lung cancer, lung adenocarcinoma. L-DOS47 is based upon Helix's patented new broad spectrum therapeutic platform, called DOS47, for the destruction of cancer cells. L-DOS47 is in preclinical development in preparation for clinical testing.
Company Strategy
Helix discovers and develops therapeutics based on its two platform technologies, Biphasix for topical drug delivery of large molecules and DOS47, an agent that is toxic to cancer cells and can be coupled to highly specific targeting molecules.
Helix's strategy is to discover then move drug candidates into clinical development. It then searches for an appropriate partner to commercialize the drug. Helix also seeks collaborations to develop molecules incorporating Helix's core technologies.
Programs
Topical Interferon Alpha-2b is in Phase 2 clinical trials for the treatment of cervical dysplasia and ano-genital warts; both are caused by human papilloma infection. Helix plans to submit an IND to begin a Phase 2/3 trial in cervical dysplasia patients in the U.S. by mid calendar 2010.
L-DOS47 is in late preclinical development for the treatment of lung adenocarcinoma. Helix plans to submit an IND to begin a Phase 1 trial in the U.S. and a CTA to begin a Phase 1/2 trial in Europe by mid calendar 2010.
