Novacam Technologies is developing a commercial line of medical imaging detectors based on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) technology. Using advanced photonics and fiber optics, OCT represents a new class of real-time diagnostic tools suited to a wide range of non-invasive in-situ medical applications. By using near-infra red light, OCT provides image resolution which is more than an order of magnitude better than ultrasound. In June 2004 Novacam became the only licensee authorized to commercialize the advanced OCT technology developed by the Canadian National Research Council (NRC/CNRC). Since this time, the Company has self-financed, developed and installed operational OCT systems.. Novacam’s expertise in industrial and medical imaging is globally recognized.

Optical Coherence Tomography has the potential to enter the $20B medical imaging market becoming a sixth major modality - after conventional X-ray, CT, Ultrasound, MRI, SPECT and PET. Medical applications suitable for OCT detectors include: Ophthalmology, Cardio-vascular diseases, Oncology, Dermatology, Endoscopy, Guided-surgery, Gynecology and Urology, Dentistry, and for research in bio-photonics and pharmacology for small animal imaging. Novacam is identifying the most appropriate OEM for each sector, and seeking partnerships with larger OEMs.

Vuk Bartulovic, Novacam’s President, has a diploma in Electrical Engineering from Zagreb University (Croatia). Prior to founding Novacam in 1997, Mr. Bartulovic was the Director of Engineering at Park Medical Systems Inc., a Montreal-based company that designed and manufactured gamma cameras and SPECT systems for Nuclear Medicine. Prior to Park he co-founded Modular Vision System Inc. (MVSI), a high tech company that went public successfully. MVSI designed and manufactured laser range sensors. He is a co-author of two US patents.
