McGill University-Office of Technology Transfer (OTT)

The Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) is a gateway to McGill University's technical and industrial expertise. OTT is involved in identifying inventions created inside our institution and protecting and developing them. We are also the entry point for industry seeking specific expertise or looking to solve technical or scientific challenges. Finally, we are the hub for a number of services such as research contracts, service contracts, material transfer agreements and technology licenses.

Our office’s main responsibilities are the following:
• Manage intellectual property in order to create value by commercializing inventions and discoveries made in our institution (license, spin-off, trademark)
• Facilitate industry access to academic expertise through research or service contracts
• Help industry conduct clinical trials with our affiliated hospitals

McGill has more than 1,500 principal investigators, supervising approximately 5,000 graduate students. About 2/3 of McGill’s principal investigators are in science.

McGill has been ranked among the top 25 universities worldwide by The Times Higher Education Supplement for the last years.

Dr. Laurent Masaro received his doctorate in chemistry (polymer sciences) from the University of Montréal in 1998. In 2000, he simultaneously completed a post-doctoral degree in pharmacology and an MBA in finance. He then spent 6 years in the biotechnology industry where he held various positions of increasing responsibility, first at BioMatera Inc. and then at Celmed BioSciences Inc. He occupied positions in product development, business development and corporate development.

Recently, he joined McGill’s OTT as an Officer in Life Sciences. Based on his academic background and professional experience, he is primarily responsible for projects related to medical devices, diagnostics, drug delivery systems and oncology.
