Amorfix Life Sciences Ltd. (TSX:AMF) is a theranostics company developing therapeutic
products and diagnostic devices targeting misfolded protein diseases including ALS, Alzheimer's Disease, variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (vCJD) and Cancer.
Amorfix's proprietary Epitope Protection[TM] (EP) technology enables it to specifically identify very low levels of aggregated misfolded proteins (AMP) in a sample of normal protein. Aggregated misfolded proteins are a common element of many brain wasting diseases and the ability to identify AMPs and understand their structure and mechanism of folding are the first steps to developing new treatments for these devastating diseases. Amorfix utilizes its computational discovery platform, ProMIS[TM], to predict novel Disease Specific Epitopes ("DSE") on the molecular surface of misfolded proteins. ProMIS[TM] is an "in silico" rational selection approach that can be applied to any protein where the normal folding structure is at least partially known. Amorfix's lead therapeutic programs include antibodies and vaccines to DSEs in ALS, Alzheimer's disease and
Cancer.
The Company's diagnostic programs include a blood screening test for vCJD and the
A4 test, an ultrasensitive method for the detection of aggregated Beta-amyloid in brain tissue of animal models of Alzheimer's disease, months prior to plaque formation.
Presenter Bio
Dr. Adams is a scientist and serial entrepreneur providing leadership, senior management and strategic guidance to life sciences companies in roles including CEO or board participation. Dr. Adams was the President and CEO of the Innovations Foundation from 1999 until 2004, where he was involved in creating companies and commercializing technologies. Prior to this, he held research and executive positions with Boston Scientific Inc, Pfizer Inc., Corvita Canada Inc., University of Ottawa and Canadian Red Cross, Blood Transfusion Service. He has also been a founding angel investor in six start-up companies in Canada and the United States. He has been instrumental in obtaining venture financing for 24 companies who have raised $85 million and has been a Director of 10 venture capital funds and 8 start-up companies. Dr. Adams has 124 publications including 9 invited reviews, 26 full papers and 3 patents. He is a past President of the Canadian Biomaterials Society. He has been a reviewer for numerous scientific journals, national granting agencies and several national and provincial centres of excellence. He has been a principal investigator for over $40 million in private and publicly-funded research and development. Dr. Adams is a graduate of the Rotman School of Management Director's Education Program.
