Company Information

Company Type: Cleantech

Development Stage: Private

Company Profile

Agrisoma is building a seeds business in the rapidly expanding biofuel feedstock crop segment of the $40B global agricultural seeds market. The Company is developing new dedicated oilseed varieties engineered for the efficient production of bio-feedstock for the bio-refinery. These new crop varieties will provide superior yields of optimized bio-feedstock oils for both domestic and international markets, with oils optimized for the displacement of petroleum in liquid fuels for the transportation sector including biodiesel and aviation

Company Strategy

The Company is developing crops to meet the rapidly growing, government mandated renewable fuels standards, focusing on the high value portion of renewable fuels, oil-derived fuels for biodiesel and aviation.

Intellectual Property

Agrisoma has a worldwide patent portfolio protecting its technology and technology applications in all plant species. The patent estate includes three major patent families encompassing the broad outline of the technology itself, specific applications and use of the technology for agricultural applications, and finally methods to engineer and modify plant chromosomes. The company has patents pending in the area of oil modification for renewable fuels and manufacturing. The intellectual property of Agrisoma provides a route for freedom to operate for new crop development that avoids the current intellectual property roadblocks for product development. Agrisoma technology offers a means to avoid these technologies and have a clear path to product commercialization. Agrisoma technology can be successfully employed to avoid all major plant transformation intellectual property roadblocks.

Programs

Agrisoma is combining two enabling and field tested intellectual property suites, a highly efficient and proven trait stacking platform and proprietary traits for enhanced yields of oils and improvements in crop performance. Together, this technology package is being delivered to the market in a non-food biomass oilseed, B. carinata, a fast growing, highly productive crop that is tolerant to heat, drought and agricultural pests, enabling production on lesser quality lands with reduced agricultural inputs. This product represents the potential for a billion dollar seeds business, adding an additional billion dollars in market value to the $40 billion crop seeds business.
