4iBIO is developing a range of new surgically implanted, interpositional, Orthopaedic prosthetic devices for the early treatment of Osteoarthritis (OA). The prosthetic design is unique in establishing a new paradigm of joint protection and preservation in distinction to current prostheses which depend on joint replacement following years of medically supervised joint destruction. 4iBIO's disruptive technology has been patented in the US and has patents pending worldwide. The US market for knee and hip prostheses alone this past year was in excess of $6.5 billion of which greater than 90% was for the treatment of OA. 4iBIO's market includes this group and many more patients who await surgery on canes, walkers and wheelchairs. 4iBIO has also identified a broader market for OA affected joints such as the basal joint of the thumb, the Temporomandibular Joint and veterinary applications where currently no clearly successful prosthetic option exists. Orthopaedic prosthetic devices range in price from $3,000 to $15,000 with a huge mark-up. 4iBIO intends to market its individually customized prosthesis at $3,000 with cost of goods sold estimated at 15%. Proof of concept has been completed in a small human sample. 4iBIO is currently preparing for multi-centre clinical trials and seeks funding for its commercialization path. 4iBIO is currently privately held.

Establish an early independant revenue stream then partner with a substantial medical device company with significant international presence to enable rapid and effective penetration of the cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) market which has grown at double digit percentages since the products were launched in 2001.

MARVIN SCHWARTZ, BSc, DDS, MSc, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon - President and Chief Executive Officer

4iBIO was founded by Dr. Marvin Schwartz, an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and innovator. Dr. Schwartz has dedicated his career to education and improving patient's lives.

Dr. Schwartz is currently Chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Department of Surgery at the Rouge Valley Health Complex. He also holds a post-graduate teaching appointment at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a past President of the Great Lakes Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and past President of the Medical Staff Association of Scarborough Grace Hospital.

Dr. Schwartz has extensive medical research experience. His interests in Diseases of Joints, in particular Osteoarthritis and the TemporoMandibular Joint (TMJ), have led his main research interests. He is also co-founder of The Crown Institute. His interests there focus on Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD), Whiplash Assoicated Disorders (WAD) and Headache research and treatment. He has extensive experience in the therapeutic use of Botulinum toxin (eg Botox) in these areas.

Dr. Schwartz has always viewed the innovative resolution of clinical challenges as a foundation for the improvement of patients' lives. As such, his emphasis has been on the identification of significant medical challenges and the technologies that may be applied to alleviate them. The power of integrating ideas from different scientific disciplines such as engineering and medicine to solve common and debilitating problems is a driving force for 4iBIO.
